[003] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Hydrogen powered

Military Xi can be a hydrogen powered unmanned helicopter
~ liquid hydrogen (LH2) is used as fuel
~ hydrogen stored in metal (MH2) and fuel cells are used to power Xi's electric system

[004] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Special Fuel

Special Fuels are being explored
~ US Department of Defense and the NATO are endeavouring to operate with a single type of fuel from 2008
~ this principle was made public under the name of "Single fuel for the battlefield" (DoD Directive 4140.25)
~ it is aimed at improving the logistics, availability, range and cost-efficiency of the armed forces
~ against this backdrop, the decision has fallen in favour of diesel fuel or "heavy fuel"
~ this is due to the fact that even today in the NATO states the engines of most military applications
~ run with various diesel raffinates such as jet fuel, JP-8 and JP-5
~ in connection with this, the diesel engines for UAV are also known as heavy fuel engines (HFE).

[005] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Refuelling interval

Refuelling interval
~ Base4Xi provides refuelling while Xi shelters inside Base4Xi
~ fuel needed for a new mission is calculated by Base4Xi based on it's analysis of sensored data and instructions received from network

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[006] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Automatic/Autonomous refuelling
Automatic/Autonomous refuelling is done at Base4Xi
~ Base4Xi is dropped to mission area typically by a manned helicopter
~ refuelling is done autonomously at Base4Xi which calculates fuel needed for a new mission
~ Base4Xi is capable to order more fuel using it's network connection
[007] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Solar Power
Solar power is being explored for electronics.
~ Base4Xi use solar power and is capable to recharge a sheltering Xi
[008] Xi's Power ~ Military Helicopter: ~ Engine Horse Power (HP)
Clients will decide HP required for Xi engine.
Mission_Profiles affect to Xi's engine HP requirements as follows:
~ in rapid deployment scenarios Xi does not have to climb up to high altitudes but is rather dropped down by a deployment air vehicle
~ Xi is designed to fly around a small target area and to operate near Base4Xi or manned base station
~ sensor payload is being dropped rapidly and when collecting sensor data payload is minimum
Technology used in engine and for engine affects to HP requirements as follows:
~ ACIS: engine performance at higher altitude is enhanced
~ FADEC: engine tuning even in real-time during flight
~ flight mode, see for example level flight below
Target area and autonomous requirements affects to engine HPs as follows:
~ navigation might be demanding and autonomous, see for example vision based navigation below
~ Xi might on the other hand get an easy, reprogrammed route with no sudden obstacles to avoid
~ assumed typical target theater is an oil & gas facility (pump stations, oil rig, refinery) area
Other facts affecting to engine's HP
~ context, where Xi is being used affects
~ markets
~ Xi's price (add military price of equipment)
Some examples of HPs used in UAV helicopters (see UAV link below & contact manufacturers):
1. Vantage 31 kW (42 hp)
~ Lengtht=2.13 m (84 in), Rotor diameter 2.44 m (96 in), Weight 160 kg (350 lb), Speed 185 km/h (115 mph)
~ Ceiling 5500 m (18000 ft), Endurance 3-5 h, Propulsion Heavy-fuel, Wankel engine
2. RCV engines
~ 35cc single cylinder engine, 3.4hp at 9500 rpm, 0.6 lb/hp.hr for US Defense Contractor
~ 40cc boxer twin engine, 3.4 hp at 9100 rpm internal research.
3. UAV engines
~ the UEL range of lightweight gasoline-fuelled Wankel-type rotary engines covers 20 to 120 bhp (15 to 90 kW)
4. Thielert
~ tailor-made development services and the production of engine components
5. Yamaha
~ RMax
~ 246cc, water-cooled, 2-stroke, horizontally opposed 2-cylinder engine
~ 21-horsepower engine can handle 30 kilograms (27 kilograms on the model with GPS) of practical payload
~ because the engine is water-cooled, it brings its power into full play in a stable manner, even in high-altitude areas or in the scorching sun
~ fuel: regular gasoline mixed with 2-stroke engine oil
~ maximum Payload from 28kg to 31kg
