Korea, Vietnam sign FTA
Korea and Vietnam signed a free trade agreement (FTA) in Hanoi.
The pact will make the Southeast Asian country Korea's 15th tariff-free trading partner and
boost Seoul's exports of automobiles, electronics and beauty products.
The two nations aim to have the pack go into effect 2015.
Korea's domestic builders and small- and medium-sized machinery manufacturers will benefit from the deal
because Vietnam is undertaking many rural development projects.

The FTA expected to help expand Korea's investment in Vietnam and contribute to the latter's economic development
Vietnam will remove its import duties on 89.9 percent of all products from Korea over a 15-year period after the pact is implemented.
Seoul will do the same on 95.4 percent or 11,668 out of the total 12,232 products imported from Vietnam.
Rice, red peppers, onions and some other sensitive agricultural products to both sides were not part of the negotiations.
The deal will put Korean companies in a better position to compete with Japanese firms in Vietnam,
which have enjoyed increased competitiveness in price following the Vietnam-Japan economic partnership agreement in 2009.
In 2014 Korea exported some $22 billion worth of goods and services to Vietnam,
making it one of the world's largest destinations for Korean products.
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached more than $30 billion in 2014,
the largest ever since the countries established diplomatic ties in 1992.

Samsung's Virtualized Core Solution Chosen to Support SK Telecom's Nationwide IoT Network

ξ Samsung has been selected as the sole vendor for SK Telecom's nationwide Network Function Virtualization (NFV) deployment
ξ will provide its AdaptiV Core solution for the operator's dedicated mobile IoT(Internet of Things) network
ξ IoT network, driven by Samsung's AdaptiV Core, is scheduled to go live in the first half of 2015, and
ξ will see initial applications targeting package delivery tracking, CCTV monitoring and city-wide sensor monitoring
ξ NFV is one of the core technologies of next-generation mobile networks and
ξ will play a critical role in helping telecom operators in terms of network deployment,
ξ management and operation as well as service efficiency and rapid scalability
ξ Samsung successfully completed its virtualized EPC Proof of Concept (PoC) and
ξ subsequent trials with SK Telecom in late 2013, and
ξ was chosen by SK Telecom in 2015 for deployment in the mobile carrier's dedicated network for IoT services.
ξ Samsung's AdaptiV Core scored the highest among vendors competing for the contract with SK Telecom,
ξ particularly in the areas of product performance, functionality, stability and ease of management
ξ The solution emphasizes a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) and
ξ the ability to easily manage virtualized resources

Samsung's AdaptiV Core

ξ runs on a KVM-based hypervisor on a common server hardware platform, and Samsung's CognitiV Cloud Manager System
ξ vEPC will be responsible for managing traffic to and from IoT-type devices,
ξ leveraging its ability to scale network functions as needed to provide a dynamic balance of
ξ capacity, performance, power consumption and resource availability
ξ CognitiV Cloud Manager will be responsible for managing this process,
ξ keeping track of available resources and network load,
ξ while also providing SK Telecom with a powerful and straightforward interface
ξ with which to customize the behaviour of each Virtualized Network Function (VNF)
ξ It will also determine network status and easily manage hardware resources as needed.
